It was time for some extra holiday fun at ZSL London Zoo as the zookeepers were keeping busy preparing some very seasonal surprises for the Zoo’s residents to enjoy.
Asiatic lionesses Heidi, Indi and Rubi woke up to a pile of pretty presents to rip open – thanks to specialist fund management group Liontrust – while the Zoo’s Humboldt penguin colony pecked for pressies underneath their very own Christmas tree.
No stranger to a nativity, the Zoo’s donkeys also joined in the festivities, tucking into juicy carrots from giant santa sacks hung in their stables, while the squirrel monkeys delved into mini santa stockings stuffed with their favourite treats.
ZSL’s Zoological Manager Mark Habben said: “We love a bit of Christmas cheer at ZSL London Zoo, and like to find fun ways for the animals to join in the celebrations.”
“We’ve come up with a variety of activities to encourage them to use their natural skills, like foraging or sniffing out their next meal: our lionesses will love using their hunting prowess to rip open their presents, while our penguins will be searching for treats under the tree – just like kids all over the country on Christmas day.”
ZSL London Zoo is open to the public all year round except for Christmas Day. With plenty of festive fun to keep the whole family entertained during the school holidays, ZSL London Zoo makes for a fantastic day out this Christmas. To find out more and book your tickets, visit: www.zsl.org.
